The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has directed the immediate continuation of its enforcement exercise to remove all unauthorised outdoor advertising signs mounted in road medians nationwide.
In a statement issued Monday, July 22, the Authority cited significant road safety risks posed by such installations, describing them as visual distractions to drivers and obstructions to motorists and pedestrians.
“This action is necessitated by the significant road safety risk these signs pose, as they cause visual and cognitive distractions to drivers and obstruct the view of road users,” the statement noted.
The directive follows a successful pilot exercise in Ayawaso West Municipality and will now extend across major routes in the Greater Accra Region from August. Targeted corridors include:
N1 Highway (Achimota Overhead to Dzorwulu Fiesta Royale)
Dr Kwame Nkrumah Circle Stretch (Circle to Odorkor and Weija Intersection)
Spintex Road (Action Chapel Intersection to Palace Mall)
Kawokudi to Achimota Stretch
The NRSA has warned advertising agencies, corporate clients, and sign owners to voluntarily remove their installations from the specified areas.
“Failure to comply will result in the forceful removal of the signs by the Authority and its partners, with the full cost of the exercise charged to non-compliant owners,” it said.
The Authority urged public cooperation, stressing that the nationwide initiative is critical to ensuring safer roads for all users.
