A prosecution witness in the high-profile trial of former National Signals Bureau Director-General, Kwabena Adu Boahen, has told the High Court in Accra that he was detained for nearly a week without being informed of any wrongdoing.
Frank Anane Dekpey, a former personal driver to Mr. Adu Boahen, made the revelation when he appeared before the court on Friday, July 18, 2025.
He testified that he had been invited by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to assist with investigations but ended up in custody for six to seven days without being given any official reason.
Dekpey stated that no charges were ever made known to him during the period of his detention.
Led in evidence by Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem Sai, the witness recounted how he routinely delivered cash to his former boss, Mr. Adu Boahen, during his time as a driver.
He explained that these deliveries were usually coordinated by Mildred Donkor, the third accused in the case, who allegedly instructed him to cash cheques from Stanbic Bank and UMB Bank.
According to Mr. Dekpey, the cheques were always sealed in envelopes and he personally handed them to bank tellers. As a result, he claimed he was unaware of the sums involved in the transactions.
During cross-examination by lead defence counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, the witness was challenged on the legitimacy of his continued cooperation with the prosecution despite what was described as questionable treatment by EOCO.
In response, Mr. Dekpey said he was told by investigators that his name, ID card, and signature were linked to numerous transaction records, and he was merely being asked to clarify those links.
The matter is expected to resume on Friday, July 25, 2025, when cross-examination will continue.
