Three of Ghana’s top schools, Mfantsipim School, St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO), and Keta Senior High Technical School are set to compete for the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) ultimate title.
With each school vying to prove its academic prowess, the contest promises an intense battle of knowledge and strategy, as fans eagerly anticipate who will emerge victorious.
The much-anticipated Grand Finale will be held at the New Examination Centre (NEC) at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
With Keta SHTS, the relentless “Dzolali Spirit,” competing against the “Landlords” – Mfantsipim School and the “Lords of the Coast”- St. Augustine’s College, everyone is asking: who will claim the 2024 NSMQ trophy?
A Look at the Finalists
Mfantsipim School, known as Ghana’s oldest Senior High School, has claimed the NSMQ title twice, in 1999 and 2014. Their formidable contestant, Isaac Mensah, has demonstrated impressive resilience and quick-thinking ability throughout the competition, making him a strong contender to lead Mfantsipim School.
St. Augustine’s College, another powerhouse from the Central Region, has consistently proven its mettle in the NSMQ, winning the title in 2007 and 2019 respectively. Known as the “Lords of the Coast,” their reputation for excellence in academics precedes them. This year, Alexander Otoo, their lead contestant, is prepared to uphold that legacy and bring home another victory.
Keta SHTS, from the Volta Region of Ghana, is powered by the enduring “Dzolali Spirit,” which has become a rallying anthem for the school and its supporters. They first reached the finals in 2021, finishing as second runner-up, and their determination has only grown stronger since. This year, with Perpetual Sefakor Gakpetor leading the charge, Keta SHTS is poised to make history. If they succeed, it will be the first NSMQ title for a school from the Volta Region – a monumental achievement for both the school and the region.
As the finalists prepare to compete, two questions are on everyone’s lips: Will it be a host-and-win scenario for the Central Region contenders, or will Keta SHTS’ “Dzolali Spirit” carry the day?
