Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, makers of the popular Tasty Tom brand, has initiated a nationwide voluntary recall of its Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix due to reports of bloated packaging across several product sizes.

The recall affects all batches of the 210g and 400g canned tomato mix, as well as the 380g and 1.05kg pouch variants. The move follows a directive from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), working in collaboration with National Security, after isolated complaints were received about swollen packs—an indication of possible spoilage.

In a public statement issued by the company, Nutrifoods confirmed that it was working closely with the regulatory authorities to determine the root cause of the issue.

“We have received reports of bloating in some units of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix and, following guidance from the FDA and National Security, have begun a proactive recall of all potentially affected stock,” the company disclosed.

Customers who have purchased any of the affected products are encouraged to return them to Nutrifoods’ Tema Office or any approved distribution outlet for a replacement.

The company has also provided a customer service line—050 538 4429 (operational weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)—as well as an email address: tastytom.GH@olamnet.com, for further inquiries or assistance.

Nutrifoods expressed its regret for any distress caused and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards in food production.

The statement indicated that the company is cooperating fully with regulatory authorities, who are currently inspecting its production facilities as part of the investigation.

As of now, the FDA has not released a formal update on its preliminary findings, but inspections and reviews are ongoing.
