The Jasikan Diocesan Youth Council (JADYC) has issued a strong condemnation of the violent attack on Catholic priests in Kpassa, Nkwanta on December 11, 2024.
In a press statement, the Council described the assault as a “senseless act of brutality” and called for swift justice to be served on the perpetrators.
According to reports, the clergy, who serve in the Kpassa Catholic Church, were targeted in an incident that has sent shockwaves through the Catholic community and the nation at large. While the specific details of the attack remain under investigation, the violence against the priests has drawn widespread outrage and concern.
The Catholic Church, a longstanding symbol of peace, love, and compassion, has expressed deep dismay over the incident. JADYC highlighted the need for authorities to take immediate and decisive action to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, particularly religious leaders.
“We call on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and to reaffirm the commitment to protecting the clergy and other vulnerable groups,” the statement read.
Echoing calls made in the past by the National Peace Council, JADYC appealed for calm and restraint from all parties. “We urge everyone to allow the law to take its course and to refrain from taking matters into their own hands,” the Council added.
JADYC also extended their prayers and solidarity to the victims, their families, and the Catholic community in Ghana. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this unfortunate incident. May God bring healing, comfort, and peace to everyone involved,” they stated.
The attack has raised concerns about the safety of clergy in the region, prompting calls for greater security measures. As investigations continue, the Jasikan Diocese has reiterated its commitment to promoting peace and justice within its jurisdiction and beyond.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced ongoing efforts to arrest suspects involved in the attack on three Catholic missionary priests in Nkwanta, located in the Oti Region.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, investigations are underway, and the police are committed to ensuring the perpetrators face justice.
