The Ghana Police Service, with support from the military, has successfully restored calm, law, and order in Nkwanta and its surrounding areas in the Oti Region.
This follows renewed communal-related disturbances that have tragically resulted in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to five others. Additionally, eight buildings and one shop have been destroyed in the clashes.
According to the police, the five injured victims are receiving medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has reached out to three traditional leaders in the area via telephone, urging them to collaborate with security agencies to maintain peace and security.
Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Police Commander is on the ground, actively engaging chiefs, opinion leaders, and community members in ongoing peace-building efforts as investigations into the incident continue.
The police have reassured the public, particularly residents of Nkwanta and its environs, that both the police and military remain committed to ensuring lasting peace and security in the affected communities.
Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Public Affairs, reiterated the security services’ dedication to resolving the situation and preventing further unrest.
