A Development group, Obo New Vision, has handed over a fully renovated 6-unit classroom block to the Kwahu Ridge Senior High Technical School (Obo KRISTEC SHS) at Obo in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The block, which had not seen any major renovation since it was constructed over some decades ago, had developed deep cracks, leaking roofs, broken windows and doors, and damaged floors, making it unsafe for teaching and learning.
The renovation, funded by members of Obo New Vision home and abroad at an estimated cost of over GH¢ 300,000, included re-roofing, re-plastering, floor tiling, painting, replacement of doors and windows, new ceilings, electrical rewiring, installation of fans and provision of 240 dual desks.
Handing over the facility to the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Sunday, August 30, the President of the group, Nana Adofo Kissi I, said the initiative is part of the group’s agenda to support quality education in Kwahu.
“When we visited the school and saw the state of this 6-unit block, we knew we had to intervene. KRISTEC has overpopulation and we thought it wise to renovate the already abandoned block for the students to use. Our children cannot learn effectively in a deplorable environment. This is our contribution to improving education in Obo and Kwahu at large,” he said.
The Headmaster of Kwahu Ridge SHS, Michael Adu, expressed gratitude to the group, saying the intervention has brought huge relief to the school as it was struggling with classroom deficit due to increased enrollment.
“This 6-unit block will ease congestion and create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning. We are extremely grateful to Obo New Vision for this timely support,” he noted.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Madam Evelyn Owusu, who received the keys on behalf of GES, commended the group for complementing government’s efforts and assured that the facility will be properly maintained.
She urged students to take good care of the block and focus on their studies to achieve academic excellence.
The Acting Chief of Obo, Nana Okofo Ampadu Kyiamire II, who graced the occasion, praised the group for their unity and love for development, and called on other citizen groups and old students to support the school’s infrastructure needs.
