The Obuasi and Atwima Kwanwoma municipalities in the Ashanti Region now have new National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS offices.

Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye acknowledged the efforts of key individuals including traditional authorities who through their immense contributions have made it possible to complete the construction of these two ultra-modern edifices to serve their local communities.

The new NHIS offices will offer services to offer access to healthcare and address members’ needs in the two catchment areas.

The NHIA CEO, Dr. Okoe Boye, reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that the Scheme remains viable by facilitating access to healthcare for all Ghanaians.

He admitted that the Scheme faces a few difficulties of unauthorized payments being asked of NHIS members at some healthcare facilities, but he advised the public not to allow those difficulties to stop them from joining the Scheme.“One is still better off being on the Scheme than having to pay more at health facilities if you are not on the Scheme,” Dr. Okoe Boye continued.

The NHIA boss cautioned some uncooperative healthcare providers to stop billing unauthorized fees to NHIS members and said a report from the recently established Co-payments committee will be examined soon with punitive measures meted out to miscreant healthcare providers who are not abiding by the terms of engagement.

The Member of Parliament who was represented by the MCE for Obuasi East, Hon. Adansi Bonah thanked the Authority for giving the municipality a befitting office.

He then made a request for support from the residents, stakeholders, and opinion leaders in order for the Scheme to operate smoothly.

The Chief of Trede, Nana Niben Sra, who presided over the opening of the Atwima Kwanwoma district office, lent his support to the call for the residents of Atwima Kwanwoma to register onto the NHIS.

He thanked the Authority for granting the district a brand-new office to serve his people.
