The Obuasi Police have successfully intercepted and confiscated substantial quantities of various prohibited drugs at the Tweapease Police barrier on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway.

According to a statement issued by the police, the seized consignment comprises 257 packs of 50mg tramadol, 58 packs of 250mg tramadol, also referred to as ‘Red’, and 58 packs of 225mg tapentadol, known as ‘Royal’.

The drugs were intercepted on February 13, 2026, while being transported on a red OA Kia Grandbird bus bound for Ayamfuri, near Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region.

Upon stopping the bus at the barrier, the police conducted a thorough search and discovered two sealed brown boxes containing the illicit substances.

The driver, Joseph Nkrumah, 37 years old, was immediately arrested and implicated one Perpetual, a native of Ayamfuri, as the owner of the drugs during interrogation.

The statement further noted that on February 14, 2026, while investigations were ongoing, the alleged owner and three others, namely Diana Mensah, 40 years old, Abena Neyea, 43 years old, and Nana Akua, 35 years old, appeared at the same Tweapease barrier with GH¢50,000 in cash, allegedly attempting to bribe the police.

However, the police seized the money and arrested the four suspects for further investigation.

The GH¢50,000 is being retained for evidential purposes.

The suspects are set to be arraigned before court on Monday, February 16, 2026, under the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851, for the prohibited sale of drugs, herbal medicinal products, cosmetics, medical devices, and other household chemical substances.
