The Ghana Police Service and leaders of the Democracy Hub group on Friday, September 22 held a meeting to address concerns regarding the nature of the planned demonstration at the Jubilee House.
In a statement, the police said that the meeting was important as the venue of the demonstration is a high-security zone and as it has done for many years it is the duty of the police to provide safety for protesters.
At the meeting, leaders of the group assured the police that they would hold a discussion with members to come to a possible compromise as to the venue of the demonstration and revert to the police.
The police also stated that it has not recorded any case of assault against protesters hence anyone with evidence to the contrary should provide it for necessary investigation.
Again the police noted that they are dedicated to fostering a democratic environment where citizens’ rights are upheld while maintaining the security and stability of the nation.
Meanwhile, the group is expected to protest again on Saturday, September 23 as communicated earlier.
The group is demanding the country to be fixed as the cost of living keeps rising.
