Former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has made a series of bold statements about internal party affairs, her political struggles, and the future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an interview on Joy News, she accused her former primary opponent, Mike Ocquaye Jnr., of demeaning her father by comparing him to his own father, Professor Mike Ocquaye.

According to her, Ocquaye Jnr. went as far as labelling her father an “illiterate” during the NPP primaries.

“Ocquaye Jnr. compared his father to my father. He even tagged my father as illiterate as compared to his Professor’ father during the primaries.” She said

She also emphasized the crucial role of the Kristo Asafo Mission in securing the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary seat, stating that victory in the constituency would be impossible without their influence.

On the future of the party, Adwoa Safo expressed confidence in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia making a comeback in 2028, despite the NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections.

However, she strongly criticized the committee set up to investigate the party’s electoral defeat, dismissing it as “bogus.”

Reflecting on the party’s governance, she admitted that the NPP’s second term in office felt as though the leadership was not listening to the concerns of Ghanaians, which may have contributed to their electoral struggles.

Adwoa Safo also accused Prof. Mike Ocquaye and his son of making her political career in Dome Kwabenya difficult, stating that they had not given her peace in the constituency.

Her comments come at a time of introspection for the NPP, as the party looks to rebuild after its 2024 electoral defeat.
