Students of Odorgonno Senior High School, along with workers and residents in the area, took to the streets in protest following the tragic death of a school security guard last Saturday.
The incident occurred when a motorcycle knocked down the security officer near the school. Moments later, an oncoming vehicle ran over him, resulting in his untimely death.
The accident has reignited concerns about the lack of a functioning traffic light at a critical pedestrian crossing used by students from both the Senior High and Junior High Schools.
During the demonstration, students and community members expressed their frustration over the absence of a working traffic light at the busy crossing, which they claim has been faulty for nearly four years.
Protesters demanded immediate intervention from President John Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways, urging them to install or repair the traffic light to prevent further loss of lives.
“We are losing precious lives because there is no traffic regulation in this area. The government must take urgent action,” one demonstrator stated.
Residents and workers around Odorgono SHS have also voiced their support for the demonstration, vowing to continue protesting until the authorities address their concerns.
As pressure mounts on the government, the protesters hope that their demands will be met promptly to improve road safety in the area.
