The Ministry of Roads and Highways has disclosed that the reconstruction work currently ongoing on the Ofankor-Nsawam road is due to be fully completed in 2025.

The $346.5 million project began on July 20, 2022, and is so far progressing steadily.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the ministry, Nasir Yartey, has assured that plans are in place to complete the project in the early part of 2025.

“The date for the project to be completed is early next year [2025] but its substantial completion will be by November-December this year,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.

“In fact, by November-December this year [2024], you should see asphalt on the road, you should see at least three of the interchanges on that road completed. What will be left will be the Amsaman interchange to be completed and maybe the Nsawam junction interchange. Otherwise, by November, this road should be substantially completed,” he said.

With regards to the dusty nature of the road, he explained that the situation has worsened due to the behaviour of drivers on the road, and appealed to them to be patient when using it.

“The harmattan and driver behaviour is making the situation very worse because the contractor has improved the road in terms of the riding surface, drivers usually speed on the road and is also making the dust situation worse so going forward, the contractor is going to introduce some speed ramps, and try to limit the space. So we take this opportunity to appeal to drivers to slow down when they are using that stretch.”
