The Circuit Court in Dansoman, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, has remanded a 24-year-old commercial motorbike rider, Manaf Osman, into police custody after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbery.
According to the facts presented in court by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, the incident occurred in the early hours of June 27, 2025, around 4:30 a.m., near Tony Park in Dansoman.
The accused allegedly attacked one Joyce Lartey, threatening to stab her in the eye with a pair of scissors unless she handed over her handbag.
The bag reportedly contained an iPhone 13 Pro Max, a purse, a water bottle, a bowl, and an umbrella—all valued at a total of GH¢11,535. Osman is said to have forcibly taken the bag and attempted to escape the scene.
However, the complainant, undeterred, raised an alarm and pursued him. Her cries for help attracted the attention of Community Police Assistant Akwasi Dwamena and some residents, who intervened and managed to apprehend Osman. The stolen items, along with the scissors allegedly used in the robbery, were retrieved at the scene.
Following his arrest, Osman was handed over to the Dansoman Police where a formal complaint was filed. Investigators subsequently began compiling evidence to support the prosecution.
The court, citing Section 96(5)(a) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, refused bail and ordered that the accused remain in custody pending further proceedings.
Her Honour directed that the prosecution complete and submit all disclosures and witness statements ahead of the Case Management Conference (CMC), which is scheduled for August 27, 2025.
