A 24-year-old commercial motorbike rider, Manaf Osman, has been remanded into police custody by the Dansoman Circuit Court after being charged with robbery.
The case, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, saw the accused denied bail following arguments presented by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, who is leading the prosecution.
Osman pleaded not guilty to the charge, which falls under Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on June 27, 2025, near Tony Park, close to the Step by Step Preparatory School in Dansoman.
The complainant, Joyce Lartey, was reportedly on her way to work when Osman, who resides at Shukura-Ako Store, allegedly confronted her with a pair of scissors and forcibly took her handbag.
The bag was said to contain an iPhone 13 Pro Max, a purse, a bowl, a water bottle, and an umbrella — with the total value of the stolen items estimated at GH₵11,535.00.
A Community Police Assistant, Akwasi Dwamena, together with some residents, apprehended the suspect shortly after the incident. The stolen items, along with the scissors allegedly used in the robbery, were recovered on the spot.
The iPhone was returned to the complainant to assist in communication during the investigation. Osman was subsequently charged and remains in police custody.
The court refused his bail application under Section 96(5)(a) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act and ordered the prosecution to file disclosures and witness statements ahead of the Case Management Conference.
The matter has been adjourned to July 14, 2025.
