The Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyi has waged into the war started by the government to eradicate illegally mining on the water bodies as he stated the decision is appropriate.
According to him, it is high time the entire populace have respect for rules and laws of the land which he says is the only way the country can win the battle against galamsey to bring back the clean water for the country.
He was speaking to the entourage from the Sanitation Ministry, Eastern Regional Minister and Water Resources Commission when they paid courtesy call on him to pave way for their tour of the region to inspect water bodies and machines as well.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyi noted that, these act from the Galamseyers shows clear disrespect for the laws as he says as compared to the olden days where there are no stiffer laws but they still adhered to rules and leave long.
He used this opportunity to also urged Ghanaians to join the the fight to eradicate illegal miners from the banks of the rivers to bring the clean water back.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyi also admonished the government on the need to secure funds to reclaim the lands that have been destroyed by the act of the Galamseyers and also provide better livelihood for the youth who engage in it which he says will lure them not to go back again.
The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah also explained the reason behind their visit to the region as she commended the Okyehene and the people of Kyebi for having a cleaner water system which she admonished all other areas to also follow suit in keeping their water bodies clean.
