The Okponglo Royal Family has issued a stern warning to the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) team and its affiliates against any attempts to invade or unlawfully seize their lands.

This warning follows an incident involving individuals alleged to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), operating under the guise of the ORAL team.

The group reportedly stormed a six-acre plot of land at Shiashie, near East Legon, without provocation or prior notice.

According to Nii Sowa Ako-Odoi, Regent of Okponglo, the land in question was originally acquired by the colonial government and later returned to the family.

In 2019, the Supreme Court affirmed the family’s ownership of the property.

He revealed that the land has since been leased to the IOP Group of Companies for redevelopment into a commercial hub, which will include a lorry terminal and shops.

Nii Ako-Odoi strongly condemned the invasion, emphasizing that the land is private property and not state-owned.

He urged individuals and groups to respect the family’s legal ownership, citing valid documentation as evidence.

Reports indicate that the invaders caused damage to a section of the property, including the fence wall and marine boards.

The Royal Family has expressed concerns that these actions undermine the rule of law and are an affront to their rights as legitimate owners.

Alhaji Sule Bayor, a representative of the IOP Group of Companies, denounced the actions of the intruders and confirmed that the matter has been reported to the police for immediate investigation.

He also urged the government to intervene, as such activities tarnish the reputation of the ORAL team.

Benjamin Nortey Oklah, Presiding Member of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, corroborated the family’s claims, stating at a press briefing that the land rightfully belongs to the Nii Ako-Toboase Okponglo family, with all necessary documentation intact.

The Okponglo Royal Family has called on all parties, including the ORAL team, to respect their property rights and adhere to the rule of law.
