Director-General for National Information Technology Agency (NITA) and Eastern Regional Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor, has expressed his sincere tribute to the late former Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

During an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Dr. Kevor recalled the late Defence Minister’s generosity and unmatched loyalty to the party and President John Mahama.

“He (Dr. Omane Boamah) has supported me in all manners, in kind and cash. At a point, I recall, he sold his car just to raise resources for my campaign. I became regional chairman, and we went on to support the national elections,” Dr. Kevor revealed.

He also shared that Dr. Omane Boamah sought his counsel before accepting the role of NDC Director of Elections and IT, discussing the decision with him and colleague Gyeke Darko.

According to Dr. Kevor, after the party’s 2020 defeat —blamed by some on Dr. Omane Boamah—he had considered stepping away from frontline politics. But Dr. Kevor and others persuaded him to stay, emphasizing his loyalty to President Mahama and the importance of redeeming the party’s fortunes.

“We believed that with his loyalty to President Mahama, it would only be fair for him to stay close and help Mahama win the next election, to redeem himself and change the narrative,” Dr. Kevor said.

He also highlighted that Dr. Omane Boamah’s discipline was a vital quality the party lacked in 2020, contributing to its loss.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah was among eight people who died in the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
