One person has died and five others sustained injuries following a serious road crash at the Kintampo Waterfalls junction along the Kintampo–Tamale highway.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, involved a Man-Diesel fuel tanker (registration number GN-4895-20) and a HOWO truck (GE-555-23).

In a statement signed by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Victor Gyan, the Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Kintampo Fire Station received a distress call at 12:14 p.m., prompting an immediate response.

“A rescue team led by ASTNO Bismark Bonnah Frimpong was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they successfully extricated one driver who was trapped in the wreckage,” ADO I Gyan stated.

According to the statement, four injured persons had already been rescued and transported to a nearby medical facility by bystanders and emergency responders before the fire crew arrived.

“One lifeless body was also retrieved from the HOWO truck by fire service personnel,” the release confirmed.

While the fuel tanker was empty at the time of the crash, both vehicles suffered extensive damage, particularly to their front sections, which were described as “beyond repair.”

The Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigations to establish the cause of the collision.

“We urge all road users to exercise extreme caution, particularly along this corridor, which has witnessed several high-impact crashes in recent months,” ADO I Gyan added.

For further inquiries, the GNFS has directed the public to contact ADO I Victor Gyan via 0244 132 712.
