Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has promised to reform Ghana’s railway sector to boost Ghana’s development if he is elected as President.
He made this pledge whiles he was speaking at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi when he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
According to him, revamping the railway sector will be key for the country to be able to transport its mineral resources from various parts of the country with ease.
He stressed that although the NPP has made significant contributions to the nation’s growth, more needed to be done, therefore, his desire to succeed President Akufo-Addo in leading the nation toward continued development.
“If you look at Ghana, we have done a lot of work but we are not done. If God permits for me to become President, there are many things that I also want to do to continue with the development.
“One thing that is dear to my heart is the railway system. If you look at many other developed countries, railway is very important piece of infrastructure but if you look at Ghana, we have a lot of mineral deposits but when it comes to exploiting those resources without a railway, it becomes problematic.”
He added that “When I become President, I will partner with the private sector so we will connect railway lines across the country.”
