An uncovered fire hydrant on the pedestrian walkway, at the Ghana Immigration Service lane, of the Circle-GBC stretch in Accra poses a serious risk to passersby.
It is not immediately known the reason why the said hydrant has not been covered. But what is clear is that pedestrians stand the risk of falling into the rubbish-filled hydrant.
Pedestrians who use that stretch of road, especially those who walk on that pedestrian walk way are advised to tread cautiously so they do not fall into the open hydrant.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Ghana Water Company recently locked horns over whose mandate it was to ensure that these hydrants, in our cities, are filled with water and effectively managed in the wake of any fire outbreak.
What the Republic Press is saying is that it is high time authorities of the GNFS engage in head count of all fire hydrants in the country to ascertain it functionality to be able to operate well in time of disaster.
