The “Operation Clean Your Frontage” Bye-Law came into force assured by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, with a massive sensitisation campaign on Tuesday, 1st February 2022.
The city-wide campaign commenced from the Black Star Square with an address by the Regional Minister to about 10,000 National Service Personnel, 2,000 men and women drawn from the Security services, workers from Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Metropolitan & Municipal Chief Executives, Taskforce operatives from 13 Metropolitan & Municipal Assemblies, and other patriotic citizens who shared in the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ vision.
Mr. Henry Quartey also mentioned that the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, with clearance from the Finance Ministry, has commenced the process for training over 3,500 personnel as a “City Response Team” to be deployed to the various Assemblies to enforce the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ Bye-Law and ensure the sustainability of the program.
Addressing the media, the Minister appealed to residents and businesses to clean their frontage and maintain a clean environment at all times. This he said, is the sure way of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa and also a destination for tourism.
In the closing parade at the Black Star Square, the lawmaker for the Ayawaso Central Constituency – Hon. Henry Quartey expressed his appreciation to the over 15,000 men and women who participated in the sensitisation exercise, with a special mention to the heads of the various Security Services and Agencies.
He rendered a special appreciation to the Executive Chairman of the JOSPONG Group of Companies – calling him “the Chief Borlaman” for their tremendous collaboration, participation and logistical support to the Campaign and their partnership with the Regional Coordinating Council in the Operation Clean Your Frontage program.
He also thanked the CEO of the National Service Scheme for their tremendous collaboration and the CEO of the Coastal Development Authority for their involvement.
In his closing remarks, he stated that the public education and sensitisation will continue for the next ten days but will be spearheaded by the various Assemblies within their jurisdiction.
