The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced the commencement of “Operation Keep the Lights On,” a revenue mobilization and inspection exercise aimed at recovering arrears and ensuring the integrity of prepaid meters.
The operation will run from Wednesday, January 15, to Friday, January 31, 2025, across all ECG operational areas.
In a statement issued by ECG, the exercise will focus on customers with outstanding arrears and involve a thorough inspection of all prepaid meters.
This is to ensure that meters are functioning properly and have not been tampered with. The company emphasized that self-reconnection after disconnection is a criminal offense, urging customers to comply with regulations.
To facilitate the operation, regional and district offices will operate with a lean staff pool to ensure maximum participation by top management and staff.
Customers requiring essential services during this period are advised to bear with ECG as the company works to improve service delivery.
ECG has assured the public that the exercise is backed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s Legislative Instrument (LI) 2413, which grants it full access to all installations. Customers are encouraged to cooperate fully with ECG officials to ensure a successful operation.
“Help ECG to serve you better,” the statement concluded, highlighting the importance of the exercise in enhancing service reliability.
This initiative forms part of ECG’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its financial position and improve electricity supply across the nation.
