President Akufo-Addo has scheduled a meeting with Organized Labour for Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to address issues surrounding the sale of Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) properties.
The meeting comes on the back of a demonstration against the sale of some SSNIT hotels to Dr. Bryan Acheampong led by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Mr. Ablakwa together with some concerned individuals and Arise Ghana alleged that the sale of SSNIT hotels has been undervalued adding that, Rock City Hotel owned by Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong has been favoured to own a 60% stake in the hotels.
The North Tongu MP also claimed that Rock City Hotel is not in a position to buy SSNIT hotels since it has made losses.
Confirming the meeting during an interview on Saturday June 22, Mr. Ablakwa said “Organized Labour has informed me that the President has invited them to a meeting on the 25th of this month, which is Tuesday”.
He added, “We hope the meeting is not an attempt to persuade organized labour to retreat from their position on the sale”.
However, the information gathered suggests that the meeting will be centred on how SSNIT and Rock City Hotel agreed on the sales of the hotels.
Meanwhile, SSNIT has defended the sale, stating that it was done through a competitive bidding process and that the proceeds will be used to improve its core services.
