The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei- Mensah Bonsu has willingly stepped down from his position in the House.

His decision comes after the leadership of the party, the Majority Caucus and President Akufo-Addo held a meeting on Wednesday February 21, 2024 at the Jubilee House.

At the meeting, the NPP executives told the Majority Caucus about their desire to have a new person as the leader of the Majority side in Parliament.

Per multiple reports, the experienced Suame lawmaker voluntarily decided to step down as the Majority Leader following the suggestion by the party leadership.

His decision was welcomed by a standing ovation from colleague MPs as a sign of honour and respect for his over two decades dedicated service to the nation and the New Patriotic Party.

Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is however expected to assume the role as the head of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s election 2024 manifesto and policy team.

Following his resignation as the Majority leader, the position of the Majority is expected to be filled by his deputy and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
