OSP freezes Cecilia Dapaah’s accounts

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OPS) has taken more strict actions towards former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah as her dollar and cedi accounts have been frozen.

Sources reveal that the OSP filed a motion to confirm seized money the office retrieved from Madam Dapaah’s residence and also to confirm the frozen bank accounts.

Following the alleged stealing of huge sums of money by her house helps at her home in Accra, the OSP has since been investigating the former minister for corruption and corruption-related offences.

On July 21, the Chronicle Newspaper reported that Madam Cecilia Dapaah and her husband secretly dragged their house helps to court for allegedly stealing $1 million, 300,000 euros, several millions of cedis and personal effects of the former minister and her husband valued at thousands of Ghana Cedis and dollars.

Upon the revelation, Madam Cecilia Dapaah resigned as the Sanitation Minister and the public and other influential groups and individuals called for her head.

Meanwhile, the police and Attorney General are prosecuting persons accused of stealing the alleged monies from the minister’s house.

Police investigations further revealed that four additional houses were said to have been bought from the stolen monies from the Abelemkpe residence of former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

Also, two new Honda cars (Acura), estimated at the cost of over GHc600,000 Ghana Cedis have also been discovered.

The latest revelations add to the already existing houses and properties said to have been found at Amrahian and others in Tamale.

In the latest amended charge sheet filed on August 8, 2023, to replace the one previously filed in July, preferred charges to seven accused persons.

Patience Botwe, 18, hairdresser, Sarah Agyei, 30, unemployed, Benjamin Sowah, 29, plumber, Malik Dauda,34, unemployed, Christiana Achab, a trader, Job Pomary, a mechanic, and Yahaya Sumaila, Excavator operator, have been slapped with 14 counts.
