The illicit shipment was discovered concealed within a Volvo truck, registration number GC 3522-09, during a stop at the Bonakye checkpoint on December 29, 2025.

According to the police report, upon being intercepted, the driver and an accomplice abandoned the vehicle, leaving the ignition key behind as they fled into the bush.

Following a court order obtained from the Jasikan Circuit Court, the truck was officially opened on February 24, 2026, at Nkwanta, in the presence of various security agencies, including the Military, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and the Narcotics Control Commission.

A thorough search revealed 320 cartons of bottled mineral water, which were used as a cover to conceal 91 bales of the suspected substance, totaling 7,173 slabs of suspected cannabis.

Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, spokesperson for the Oti Regional Public Affairs Unit, confirmed that the exhibits have been retained for evidence purposes.
