The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally presented the Bawku Mediation Report to President John Dramani Mahama, outlining key recommendations aimed at resolving the long-standing chieftaincy and communal conflict in the Bawku area.

The presentation, which took place at Jubilee House, followed months of consultations and dialogue facilitated by the Asantehene, who has played a central role as mediator in the Bawku peace process.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasized that chieftaincy disputes remain at the heart of the tensions, and stressed the need for strict adherence to traditional authority and judicial processes to ensure lasting resolution. He urged political leaders to maintain neutrality and refrain from actions or statements that could escalate the situation.

The report also calls for the establishment of community-level reconciliation mechanisms, involving traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and local stakeholders, to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence among all parties.

In addition, the Asantehene highlighted the importance of enhanced security measures to safeguard lives and property while the recommendations are being implemented.

He stressed that peace in Bawku is a national security priority and requires sustained government commitment beyond immediate security interventions.

President Mahama commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his dedication to peace and assured that the government would carefully consider the recommendations in the report. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to supporting traditional and community-based solutions to chieftaincy disputes across the country.

The Bawku Mediation Report, now officially in the hands of the President, is expected to guide concrete steps to restore peace, harmony, and trust in the conflict-affected region.
