President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame has said Africa should begin working towards developing football on the continent to allow us to keep the best talents.

Mr. Kagame made this passionate call at the 2022 CAF President’s Awards in Kigali on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, where he received CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2022.

According to him, there are many talents here in Africa, and they do not need to travel outside the continent before they realize their full potential.

“Africa has talent, there is no doubt about that. But our best players should not need always to move abroad to unleash their full potential.

“I am not saying those who have the opportunity shouldn’t do so now, I’m saying we should work towards making sure that what takes them out there can be achieved whiles here,” he said.

He also added that Morocco’s World Cup performance in Qatar is an example of what Africa can do.

“This performance of Morocco at the World Cup was a good example of what is possible so we should be able to emulate that and it should inspire us to do more and better.”
