Some residents of the La community in the Greater Accra region have lamented over the reckless and unlawful way some drivers pack their vehicles along the streets.
According to them, this act endangers their lives and are therefore calling on the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) to help put an end to the menace.
They added that, the one-way road are too narrow to convey traffic (motorcycle, vehicles) and pedestrians.
Although there have not been any major accident recorded this year, they fear for the danger it poses.
“It is very disturbing how vehicles are parked along these narrow one-way roads in la, coming from la maami all the way down to palm wine junction. it will surprise you the number of vehicles you will count parked along the road”. Adoley, a food vender shared.
She continued to disclose that, drivers who use the road do not drive carefully hence putting pedestrians at risk.
Mr. Enoch, a pedestrian pleaded that, the assembly and the MTTD should come to their aid because their lives as pedestrians are in danger.
“Walking along the roads in La is very dangerous; I was once knocked into a gutter by a bicycle trying to escape a vehicle”, He added.
Speaking to Nana yaw a mobile agent, he said “I think there are no rules here in our community or law enforcers who see to how drivers use the road.”
“If there is, then I think it is not enforced”, he stressed.
Madam Gifty, another pedestrian also added that, if one is not extra careful on the road, one may end up being hit by a car.
“Sometimes I fear for the younger ones who use the roads. I suggest that their parents or guardians will walk them to school”.
Speaking to Mr. Samuel, a driver he said that, most homes in the la community have no space for their residents to park their cars hence they park their cars along the road.
“We know this act is dangerous but we have no other option.”
He continued by advising drivers in the community to stop double-parking which he thinks will help reduce accidents on the roads.
