The Office of the President has reiterated its directive prohibiting outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, and other political appointees from acquiring official government vehicles as the current administration approaches the end of its term.
This directive, first issued in 2020 at the conclusion of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term, remains firmly in place.
In a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications, the Office emphasized that the long-standing practice allowing appointees to purchase one official saloon vehicle through valuation by the State Transport Company Ltd. would not apply under the current administration.
President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his commitment to curbing this convention in favour of stricter accountability and the responsible management of state resources.
All Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides to the President and Vice President, and other political appointees including those serving as Chairpersons or Members of Statutory Boards and Corporations are required to comply with this directive.
They are instructed to return all government vehicles in their possession to the Chief Director of their respective Ministries by Friday, January 3, 2025.
The statement underscores that the directive is a clear reflection of President Akufo-Addo’s dedication to safeguarding public assets and ensuring transparency during the transition of power.
The Office of the President has expressed confidence in the cooperation of all appointees in adhering to this policy.
This move aligns with the administration’s broader efforts to promote accountability and ethical stewardship in governance.
