Over 500 soldiers are expected to be deployed to Bawku in the Upper East Region to help deal with rising insecurity in the region.
The decision to deploy armed men was taken after a delegation, comprising National Security Coordinator, Edward Asomani; Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, Chief of the Army Staff, and other heads of state security and intelligence agencies paid a working visit to the area.
The deployment follows the death of one immigration officer in Bawku on April 3.
The motive for the attack remains unclear as authorities are still working on putting an end to the everlasting conflict in the region.
Aside from the death of an immigration officer, Bawku has been in the news since the beginning of the year for no other reason other than conflicts and disturbances.
Meanwhile the Mamprugu youth association believe the recent attack is an implementation of a carefully hatched plot by the Kusasis over the past weeks to attack any vehicle heading to the Bawku township.
In recent weeks, youth in the region have clashed over the enskinnment of a new Bawku Naaba without proper consultations and the ownership of where the new Bawku Naaba comes from.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku, Amadu Hamza, the decision to deploy soldiers into the region is also to help deal with Burkinabes entering the country as a result of the insurgency in their country.
