On Thursday 27th April 2023, a delegation from OXFAM in Ghana paid a working visit to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) to discuss the minister’s policy and priority intervention areas.
The main highlight of the discussion was how Oxfam can support MoGCSP in the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill and its good implication on the participation and representation of women in local assemblies and national governance.
The meeting was also an avenue to accentuate the key gender initiatives by both the Ministry and Oxfam in all their core programmes which seek to address the widening inequality gap.
The Sector Minister for MoGCSP, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, who welcomed the delegation, was in the company of the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah and the Director for the Department of Gender, Madam Faustina Acheampong.
The delegation team was led by the Oxfam Ghana Country Director, Tijani Ahmed Hamza, the Gender Advisor and Programme Manager at Oxfam IBIS Denmark, Lene Ingvartsen, and Oxfam Gender Advisor and Project Lead on EU ENOUGH-Ghana, Thelma Hayford.
Speaking to the delegation, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu intimated that issues around witches’ camps were of key concern to her.
She, therefore, welcomed the prospect of continued engagement by Oxfam on social norms to address the root course of the issue.
The Sector Minister shared how the Ministry can collaborate with Oxfam to reframe the negative narratives on Witch Camps and ensure that accused persons get access to the security agencies for swift action.
Hon. Lariba thanked Oxfam for their continuous support to the Ministry and urged OXFAM Ghana to consider supporting the areas of mutual interest of the key priority projects to her administration.
