The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has ordered the National Buffer Company to replace expired margarine supplied to Methodist Girls Senior High School in Mamfi, Eastern Region.
This directive was issued during a meeting in Ho, where the committee reviewed the Auditor-General’s 2023 report concerning various District Assemblies, Metropolitan, Municipal, and Senior High Schools in the region.
School authorities reported that upon discovering the expired margarine, they reached out to the Buffer Stock Company via letter but received no response.
They have since stored the expired product separately, ensuring it has not been consumed by students. Upon opening the container, a foul odour confirmed their suspicions about its unwholesomeness.
PAC Chairman expressed confidence that the expired margarine was not served to students and instructed the Regional Director to follow up on the school’s correspondence with the Buffer Stock Company.
He also emphasized the need to inform the School Feeding Secretariat about the situation.
Additionally, auditors have recommended that the school management implement proper disposal methods for the expired margarine and notify the Buffer Stock in Koforidua to prevent any health risks.
They also urged supplier NGE Ghana Limited to either refund the amount involved or promptly replace the product at the school.
