Parliament adjourned its session on Thursday, November 7, 2024, after Speaker Alban Bagbin read the order paper for the day’s proceedings.
Noting the absence of a quorum to conduct official business, Speaker Bagbin, in line with Standing Order 59, indefinitely adjourned the House.
The session had been called at the request of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus, which had petitioned for an urgent recall to address pressing government matters.
The caucus referenced constitutional article 112 (3) and Standing Order 58, which mandate the Speaker to convene Parliament within a seven-day window for urgent issues.
However, the NPP members did not appear for the day’s proceedings, leaving the opposition members, from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the only MPs present in the chamber.
This marks the second time Parliament has adjourned following an impasse over Speaker Bagbin’s recent decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.
