Parliament has approved a $150 million loan facility from the World Bank, to fund the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project.
The loan, is intended to to address drainage and flood management infrastructure improvement in the Greater Accra Region.
The approval was done despite the opposition from minority caucus.
The minority believed that the government had mismanaged a $200 million lending facility that had previously been approved for the GARID project.
However, following the Speaker of Parliament conducting a head count on the motion, the majority outnumbered the minority leading to the approval of the loan.
Prior to the approval, Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, expressed worry on how the $200 million was used.
“I only want to plead with this house that we commit part of parliament’s budget to commission a forensic audit on the usage of the $200 million dollars. Mr Speaker, I urge the NPP majority to stand with the people of Ghana and reject this loan because the loan has been misapplied,” he stressed.
