Parliament of Ghana on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, approved the membership of the Appointments Committee to consider and approve the President’s nominations of some persons as Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers.
On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, President Akufo-Addo under Articles 78 (1),79(1) and 256 of the 1992 Constitution nominated ministers and Deputy ministers of State and referred them to the Parliament for consideration and approval.
The nominations saw some individuals out of the executive completely while others were assigned to other ministries.
As required by the 1992 Constitution, an appointment committee is expected to vet and approve the President’s nomination.
On the floor of Parliament, Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Afenyo Markins on behalf of the Rt. Hon Speaker of Parliament moved the motion for the adoption of the membership by the House.
He mentioned that the committee were guided by the formula adopted by the House on Friday, 15th January 2021 for the composition of the membership of committees adding that the agreed ratio is 138:137.
Membership of the Appointments Committee is chaired by Hon. First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, Vice Chairman, Hon Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Hon.Frank Annor-Dompreh as a member, Hon Samuel Atta Akyea and Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo as members.
Others are Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson (Dr) as Ranking Member, Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Deputy Ranking, Hon. Kwame Governs Agboza and Hon. Elizabeth Ofousu-Adjare as member.
Meanwhile, a date for vetting of the ministers is yet to be announced.
