Focus on Climate Change
Beyond congratulating Dr. Marfo, the occasion spurred a broader discussion on climate change and its effects on Ghana.
Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, highlighted the unpredictable rainfall patterns that have disrupted farming activities in Ghana.
He stressed the need for actionable measures to address climate change and pledged the House’s support for Dr. Marfo’s new role.
Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nettey George, urged the government to prioritize food sustainability in light of the climate crisis.
He noted that while Ghana contributes minimally to global greenhouse emissions, the country remains disproportionately affected by climate change.
He called for the implementation of research findings from Ghanaian tertiary institutions, emphasizing their potential to provide practical solutions to climate-related challenges.
Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin North, highlighted the adverse effects of climate change on the education sector.
He advocated for instilling climate-resilient practices in schoolchildren at a young age to ensure a generation well-equipped to tackle environmental challenges.
The session ended with a unified commitment by members of Parliament to support climate resilience initiatives and promote sustainable development in the country.
