In commemoration of International Kidney Awareness Day, Parliament today hosted a forum under the theme “Are Your Kidneys OK? Detect Early! Protect Early!”

The event brought together healthcare experts, Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, and citizens to discuss the critical importance of early detection and prevention of kidney diseases.

Addressing participants, Deputy Clerk of Parliament Camillo Pwamang commended the Ghana Kidney Association for its efforts in mobilizing support for individuals affected by kidney conditions. He assured Parliament’s commitment to expediting legislative measures aimed at strengthening kidney disease prevention and treatment efforts.

A keynote presentation by an Associate Professor from the University of Ghana Medical School emphasized the need for regular medical check-ups and lifestyle adjustments to safeguard kidney health. He warned of the increasing prevalence of kidney-related illnesses in Ghana and underscored the role of public education in curbing the trend.

Members of Parliament present reaffirmed their support for policies that prioritize healthcare and enhance public awareness of kidney diseases.

The forum served as a vital platform to engage the public on preventive measures and the need for early medical intervention to mitigate the impact of kidney diseases in the country.
