The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, has referred three ministerial nominees to the Appointments Committee for vetting and a subsequent report to the House.

Addressing the House, Speaker Bagbin announced, “I have received on your behalf a message from the Office of the President, dated January 9, 2025.

Honourable Members, I will accordingly refer the nominees to the Appointments Committee for consideration and report to the House. It’s so referred.”

Minority Chief Whip’s Statement

Responding to the referral, Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, issued a caution to the nominees, emphasizing the need for thorough preparation before appearing before the Appointments Committee.

“We want to caution your nominees to come prepared. It is not going to be business as usual, so they should come prepared. I hope you will be ready if you appear before the Appointments Committee,” he stated.

The vetting process is expected to scrutinize the competence, vision, and plans of the nominees in alignment with the government’s goals for national development.

Parliament’s Appointments Committee will soon announce the dates for the vetting process, during which the nominees will present their qualifications and respond to questions from Members of Parliament.

This step forms part of the constitutional process to approve appointments to key ministerial roles, ensuring that nominees meet the expectations and needs of the Ghanaian public.
