Members of Parliament are expected to reconvene today, May 17, 2024, for an emergency sitting.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban K.S Bagbin, decision to recall the house after a long adjournment was after the Majority Caucus in Parliament led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin petitioned the Speaker of Parliament for the House to reconvene to transact key government businesses.
Parliament controversially adjourned on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, and has since been in recess.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker by the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, making reference to Article 112(3) and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, petitioned the Speaker to recall parliament.
The speaker after considering the request in a letter dated May 10, 2024, said pursuant to Article 112(3) of the 1992 constitution and order 53(1) and (2) of the standing orders, is summoned to sit on Friday, May 17, 2024, in the forenoon.
Parliament upon reconvening is expected to consider items such as the Thirty-Fourth Report of the Appointments Committee and a motion on additional financing.
Additionally, the House will consider a motion for an “Additional Financing Agreement between GoG and the IDA for an amount of US$150 million to finance the ongoing Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project,” as well as a “Request for Tax Exemption for selected beneficiaries under the 1D1F Programme.
