Parliament is set to begin the vetting process for 13 newly nominated Deputy Ministers as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s effort to strengthen his administration.
The nominees, whose names were submitted to the Speaker of Parliament, require parliamentary approval before officially assuming office. Their appointment is in line with Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the Constitution.
A statement from the Presidency’s Communications Office announced the nominations on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, highlighting the administration’s commitment to enhancing governmental efficiency and driving national development.
The new deputy ministerial appointees will support various ministries in key sectors. Among them, Thomas Nyarko Ampem has been designated for the Finance Ministry, while Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi is nominated for the Interior Ministry. Ernest Brogya Gyenfi has been tapped for Defence, and Clement Abas Apaak will serve in the Education Ministry.
Other nominees include Richard Gyan-Mensah for Energy and Green Transition, Alhassan Suhuyini for Roads and Highways, and Justice Srem Sai for Justice and Attorney General. Yusif Sulemana is set for Lands and Natural Resources, while Rita Naa Odoley Sowah has been nominated for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui is expected to take on responsibilities in the Works, Housing, and Water Resources Ministry, while Yussif Issaka Jajah has been appointed for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts. Notably, actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has been named Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture. Samson Ahi will oversee Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry.
