The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has held an emergency meeting with the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to find a solution to the demands of the aggrieved members of the association.

The much-anticipated meeting ended quite satisfactorily with both the Committee members and GRNMA agreeing to play its part in the best interest of patients and the country at large.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mark Kurt Nawaane, and the Ranking Member, Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie led the Committee to negotiate with GRNMA and appeal to the Association to call off the strike. Hon. Nawaane also appealed to GRNMA and other aggrieved associations or institutions to involve the legislative arm of the state through a petition to the Speaker for intervention to avoid such strikes.

At the end of the meeting, GRNMA led by the First Vice President Mr. Samuel Alagkora Akolgo expressed appreciation to the Committee for listening to their grievances as well as assuring them of its commitment to negotiate with the Executive for the implementation of their demands.

Present at the meeting were the Minister of Health Hon. Kwabena Minta Akandoh, Deputy Minister of Finance Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission Dr. George Smith-Graham.

Following this engagement, GRNMA has since called off its strike and commended the Committee for its initiative.
