Three men accused of unlawfully demolishing a four-bedroom self-contained apartment and a single-room property worth GH¢800,000 at Odumase, near Amasaman, have pleaded not guilty at the Circuit Court.
The accused—Daniel Kwateng, a 42-year-old quantity surveyor; David Agyei Agyemang, a 44-year-old farmer; and Kennedy Yao Adzormahe, 42, who claims to be a pastor—were granted bail to the sum of GH¢850,000 each with three sureties, one of whom must justify with title deeds.
They were also ordered to deposit their passports and Ghana Cards at the court registry.
The case, which was prosecuted by Chief Inspector Portia Nuarko, has been referred to the Attorney General’s office for continuation, as the law restricts police prosecution of cases exceeding GH¢50,000.
The court adjourned proceedings to April 30, 2025.
Background of the Case
The complainant, William Kofi Kwao Manasseh, a pastor residing at Odumase, acquired four plots of land from Christian Dorgbadzi, the family head of the Rev. Dorgbadzi family, and Nii Acquaah II.
He subsequently registered his interest with the Lands Commission, receiving lodgment number LRDGAR3432862024.
However, on January 26, 2025, at about 10:00 p.m., Kwateng allegedly used a payloader machine to demolish Manasseh’s four-bedroom self-contained apartment and a single room without any lawful authority or court order.
Investigations revealed that Kwateng was allegedly instigated by Agyemang and Adzormahe to carry out the destruction.
The complainant reported the incident to the police on January 28, 2025, leading to the arrest of the accused on February 4, 2025.
During interrogation, Kwateng admitted to the demolition, claiming that he and some estate developers had also purchased the same land from the Rev. Dorgbadzi family.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
With the case now under Attorney General’s review, the prosecution is expected to establish whether the accused had legal grounds for their actions or if they deliberately destroyed the property.
The court’s decision to impose a strict bail condition highlights the seriousness of the charges, as the accused await further legal scrutiny at the next hearing.
