Residents of Patang Village in the Ga East Municipality have threatened to stage a demonstration and boycott the 2028 general election over the deteriorating state of roads in the area.
According to the residents, the roads have become nearly impassable, particularly during the rainy season, due to the alleged encroachment of the Dakobi River by private developers.
They claim the encroachment has altered the river’s natural course, causing erosion and weakening sections of the road along the Dakobi stretch, thereby worsening access to the community.
Speaking to Citi News, the residents accused the Ga East Municipal Assembly and the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, which share jurisdiction around the river, of issuing permits to the developers despite the environmental and infrastructural consequences.
Frustrated by what they describe as years of neglect, some residents warned that they would withhold their participation in future elections if their concerns are not addressed.
“Anyone who dares bring a ballot box here during the next general election will incur our wrath,” one resident said.
The residents are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to restore the affected roads and address the alleged encroachment on the river.
