Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, who was removed from that position in 2015, has officially declared his intention to contest the position.

The politician and key financier of the NPP had stayed away from the political scene for a decade but has expressed interest in the position he once held.

Mr. Afoko announced his decision to contest through a statement dubbed “Declaration of Intention to Contest the National Chairmanship Position of the New Patriotic Party.”

According to him, he has decided to contest following extensive reflection and encouragement from party members and stakeholders who are calling for renewed leadership within the NPP.

Mr. Afoko posited that he is contesting because of his desire to return the NPP to its founding values and democratic principles.

“After extensive reflection and encouragement from many well-meaning members, supporters, and stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I am honoured to formally announce my intention to contest for the position of National Chairman in the upcoming election of national officers,” he stated.

“This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our Party,” he said.

He announced further that he will begin broad engagement.

“In the coming weeks, I will engage more broadly with Party faithful and the media to share my vision, ideas, and plans to lead the NPP with integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose. Let us look ahead together.”
