The Food and Drugs Authority, FDA has warned consumers to be wary of the kind of food products they buy as the Christmas festivities gradually approach.

This is because some wholesalers and retailers sell unwholesome products to unsuspecting consumers during such festive seasons, which can be harmful to human health.

FDA has therefore advised the public to always pay attention to particularly pre-packaged food items and always look out for the expiry or best-before dates, which are typically the dates that guarantee the wholesomeness of the food products.

The warning was given at a Women Empowerment Conference in Kumasi, under the auspices of People’s Mother Foundation.

The 2022 Women Empowerment Conference under the auspices of People’s Mother Foundation, the brainchild of a former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Madam Elizabeth Agyemang in collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority and Ghana Standards Authority, was under the theme, “Fostering Entrepreneurship Ecosystems and Building Post Covid-19 Resilience”.

It was attended by market women at Kejetia who were educated on ways they can boost their trade through accessing loans from government agencies and banks.

Personnel from the Food and Drugs Authority, FDA and Ghana Standards Authority were also at the conference to sensitize the market women on how the inclusion of chemical additives to food substances affects human health and the importance of standardization in measuring instruments and weights in the marketplaces.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority, Mr John Laryea Odai Tettey warned consumers to be wary of the kind of food items bought buy from the market during the festive season.

A former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mrs Elizabeth Agyemang explained the essence of the conference, saying it would assist them to enhance their work.
