The Member of Parliament for Tain Constituency, Mr. Sulemana Adama (Hon. Ramzy Adams) has spoken against the approval of allowances to the Presidential spouses.
He claimed the approval is unlawful and could rather heap more debts on the country.
“I know every government sets committee to be paid emoluments. I don’t know why the president is urging this committee to add his wife and the wife of the vice president”, he bemoaned.
“Paying GH₵21,000 per month from 2017 is a huge amount of money which I urge all the citizenry to help fight against this agenda”, he cried out.
The MP added that, the government should top up salaries of workers with the supposed salaries for the First and Second Ladies.
“We have deplorable Education, Health, etc infrastructures, which these monies for the first ladies can help in such way”, he lamented.
He stated that, Ghanaians should wake up and boycott the offer.
The president had agreed to a proposal from a five-member emolument committee which was approved by the seventh parliament okaying the payment of salaries to the First and Second Ladies.
The new agreement indicates the first and second ladies will enjoy benefits and allowances as captured in the Article 71.
