A group of pensioners, representing 14,000 individuals across the country, presented a petition to Parliament on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

The petition calls on Parliament to investigate the underpayment of redundancy benefits owed to them as part of the Cocoa Rehabilitation Project, which aimed to revamp the Cocoa Industry back in 1993-94.

The Retrenched Cocobod Debtorโ€™s Association noted that the current economic situation has made it necessary for them to take action against the reduction of their payment benefits.

Mr. William O. Badu presented the petition on behalf of the group, which was received by Hon. Stephen Jalulah, Hon. Okudjeto Ablakwah, Hon. Mintah Akando, and Hon. Abdul Razak-Tahidu on behalf of the Speaker.

The Members of Parliament assured the petitioners that their concerns would be given due attention and addressed by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin and the leadership of the House.

They thanked the petitioners for using due process to address their grievances and assured them that Speaker Bagbin attaches importance to all petitions brought before Parliament and necessary actions will be taken to ensure a resolution is reached.

The petitioners are a group of workers who were retrenched in 1993-94 as part of the Cocoa Rehabilitation Project aimed at revamping the Cocoa Industry.
