The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has introduced a new incentive policy for citizens who report illegal connections in their communities.

The Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Dubik Mahama, disclosed this during a press conference in Accra on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

According to him, citizens should be more responsible and report any illegal connections in their communities to help the ECG meet its target in their revenue mobilization exercise in order to be able to pay power producers.

“There is a 6 percent reward on every single illegal connection reported on. Please, let’s do our best to help; the sector needs this, we have to pay the power producers, and we cannot be losing power to people who are consuming the most.

“Let’s do our civic duties and our responsible duties to close this gap. The ECG belongs to each one of us, and let’s do our best to assist,” he charged citizens.”

In March this year, ECG began a nationwide exercise to recoup a GH¢5 billion debt owed to the company from September 2022 to February 2023.

Meanwhile, the ECG has been able to recover about GH¢3.1 billion from defaulting customers in the last weeks.
